History. Beer baths in our time
Although it would seem that beer spas are a novelty, the history of this procedure stems all the way back to ancient times, as proven by contemporary sources.
Beer baths have been known for over 2,000 years. At that time, beer was not yet made from hops, but from cereal malt. Thus, we can say that classic beer baths
were used ever since hops replaced wheat, i.e. after 768 CE.
The Beer Baths of the Present
The history of modern beer baths dates to the end of the 20th century. The renaissance of this procedure began in 1997, at the German brewery Klosterbrauerei Neuzelle. Since then, this increasingly popular wellness procedure has spread to the rest of the world. In the Czech Republic, the first “beer” spa began operations in 2006, and since then, other sites in the CR have begun offering this treatment.
However, waste from breweries, wort from beer that has yet to ferment, dry malt and hops, cosmetic beer foam, or a mix of all of these ingredients are added to the “beer” baths instead of unfiltered and unpasteurised beer.
The European Centre of the Natural Beer Spa adds a truly unfiltered and unpasteurised 14° dark Karlovy Vary beer from our family
brewery to the hot baths, as according to our own patent on beer baths.
The salubrious effects of beer as such have been known for a long time, just as the effects of beer baths. During the procedure, nutrients from the lively,
unfiltered beer are absorbed into the body through the skin. These nutrients include proteins, carbohydrates, a whole spectrum of amino
acids and vitamins (especially the vitamin B group), organic acids, and minerals (iron, potassium, and others).
Thanks to the recommended drinking cure, you can also ingest all of these active substances, and thus achieve an optimum effect.
A hot beer bath with aeromassage:
- cleanses the skin
- opens pores and detoxifies the organism
- gives the organism all of the nutrients found in beer
- massages the entire body, removes muscle tension, and warms the joints
- improves heart activity and the performance of the entire circulatory system
- the aeromassage improves the regeneration of the skin and improves its elasticity
- aids in losing weight
- regulates excessive sweating
- normalises arterial blood pressure
- has a positive effect on potency
- strengthens immunity
Contraindications are very rare and there are very few. The beer procedure is not recommended in cases of severe hypertension, in states post cardiac
surgery up to one year after the operation, and during pregnancy.
Children aged 2-14 let can only take the procedure when accompanied by their legal guardian and that without the possibility of taking the recommended drinking cure.
The healing effects of the beer baths have been known since the ancient times. The natural beer spa of Karlovy Vary – Nivy uses the lively, unfiltered,
unpasteurised 14° beer “Starý Hrad” (“Old Castle”) from Karlovy Vary, brewed in our own family brewery. A hot beer bath is prepared using a combination of mineral water and beer.
In the natural beer spa, you will bathe in real beer (no substitutes, but actual beer)! There are 20 wooden vats for 1-2 persons and 1 large wooden vat for
a group of up to 6 people at your disposal. The capacity of the beer spas is ready to meet the demands of tour buses.
What does the procedure look like?
- A beer bath at a temperature of 37° C with aeromassages, lasting for up to 30 minutes.
- A drinking cure consisting of the unfiltered, unpasteurised 14° “Starý Hrad” (“Old Castle”) beer.
- Relaxation in bed for up to 30 minutes.
- Relaxing music accompanying the procedure.
You do not need to bring anything to the procedure. Blankets, towels, and sheets are at your disposal.
For the optimum effect, we recommend repeating the procedure several times, even during one week.
